Dark Lolla Rossa Cutting Lettuce Seed Organic
Dark Lolla Rossa Cutting Lettuce is certified organic and open pollinated. (53 days) A much darker version of Lollo Rossa, holding its color even under row covers, in tunnels or during prolonged cloudy periods. Its an ideal baby leaf variety providing mild flavor and excellent loft, heft and color to salad mixes. Open heads are compact, slower growing and slower to bolt than other lettuces. It has displayed resistance to mildew in our trials. Begin snipping after only four weeks. Develops bitterness if allowed to size up in the heat. This cut-and-come-again lettuce is one of the easiest, trouble-free lettuces you can grow. About 300+ seed per pack.
Lettuce Culture: May be started indoors in March and at regular intervals thereafter, or sowed outdoors as soon as the ground can be worked. Many varieties won't germinate in soil temperatures above 75° and most shut down above 80°. Where available, we present data here from a California germination experiment at 84°.
Hardy. All lettuces except icebergs tolerate heavy frost. They grow best in cool weather with medium moisture. Use shade cloth to keep summer lettuce tender and sweet longer.
Sow every 2 weeks for a continuous supply. Lettuce will not head unless thinned frequently and ruthlessly to a final distance of 1'. Heavy nitrogen feeders.
