Rossa Lunga di Tropea Red Onion Seed
Rossa Lunga di Tropea Red Onion seed is an Italian heirloom torpedo onion whose name means ‘Long Red of Tropea.’ In Calabria near the southern tip of Italy, Tropea is the site of a famous onion festival every August.
The onion itself has VIP status like Champagne from that region. It is said you can almost eat it like an apple. Very sweet and the high sugar content also means it caramelizes well.
C. Lindquist from Vegetables of Interest blog writes," The EU has granted the onions of Tropea "IGP Status" which essentially means that only Tropea Onions grown in Tropea can be named as such." I seem to recall Vidalia, Ga. trying that as well!
200 seed per pack. Very limited quantity!
